Flight 33, Still Lost...

Description

One of the best things about Full Sail being in the flight path of a nearby airport happens to be the ability to get great shots. When I shot this, there were two stories that came to mind. The first, most people may draw conclusion from, is Stephen King's novella, "The Langoliers." The second, which is the one I felt best fit this picture and came out decades before King told the tale of American Pride Flight 29, is an episode of "The Twilight Zone," called, "The Odyssey of Flight 33." Both stories deal with a commercial jet airliner that gets transported through time.

Unlike "The Langoliers," which had a ending, "The Odyssey of Flight 33" left it open in the air (no pun intended) with the following closing narration by Rod Serling himself: "A Global jet airliner, en route from London to New York on an uneventful afternoon in the year 1961, but now reported overdue and missing. By now searched for on land, sea, and air by anguished human beings, fearful of what they might find. But you and I know where she is; you and I know what has happened. So if some moment, any moment, you hear the sound of jet engines flying atop the overcast skies, engines that sound searching and lost; engines that sound hungry for fuel, shoot up a flare or do something. That would be Global 33 trying to get home, from the Twilight Zone."
